September is here. With that comes the start of new academic year. Upon returning back to university this week and having to listen to the welcome back talks and ‘Motivational’ speeches – which aren’t really motivating at all. More overwhelming being bombarded with all that new information. This has highlighted the importance of staying organised in order to keep on top of everything.
Paper planners are essential for students. It is impossible to remember every assignment and deadline in your head! The planner I use is the Life Planner by Unique Planners.
I don’t know about you but I love anything with my name on it! And this planner prides itself on offering a range of personalisation features to make the planner individual to you. With this planner you get the choice of: A4 or A5 in size; 3 different layouts; Colour of ribbon bookmark; Colour of coil; Start date as well as adding photos and text. That means no one else will have the same planner as you! Hence Unique Planners. I designed my cover to be stylish yet sophisticated. That is why I have no issue getting my planner out at job interviews. It is my secret weapon! They are always very impressed.
I use the horizontal layout and it is great. The lined spaces are perfect for marking daily to do’s as well as big events for the day. There are also large areas for checklists which are perfect to ensure tasks get completed on time and keep track of upcoming activities. Having a planner that fits your personal style is important in motivating you to complete what is actually in the planner. I think everyone is guilty of saying there are going to do something and then… don’t. So having a planner that is visually appealing will help this happen just that little bit less.
As someone that uses a lot of stickers in my planner, I can appreciate this isn’t for everyone. Each month uses a different colour which coordinates which the theme of that particular month (ie. Orange in October = Halloween). I love how colourful my planner is.
Being able to add additional pages to the back is an excellent personal touch! The pages that prove most functional to me are the list and note pages. Typically I use these for assignment planning and jotting down general ideas. I enjoy having all my important information in one place which saves me lugging several planners around with me. That’s another great thing – it’s durable and easy to carry on the go. Personally, I’m forever chucking things into my bag so my planner needs to be able to withstand just about anything!
One additional page that is ideal for students is the book log. After 2 years at university, I have learnt first hand there is no escaping the library. And being given a reading list of 30/ 40 books can be a daunting task. Having such a page in my planner helps me to narrow down which books will be most helpful to me. The fact this page is numbered makes it even better. So not only can I plan which books to read but also an order to read them in. This will save time when it comes to writing essays and assignments. Thank me later.
Another thing to note about this brand is that it is UK based! This is a big plus for me as I am a huge supporter of UK shops. Customised planners and planning in general is huge in America and I’m ready to see it take off here too. FYI Planner Kingdom is a play on ‘United Kingdom.’ Can you see what I did there?!
